Well, it seems as of May 10th, more changes have been made to the mage talents expected for patch 1.11.

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com...8906&p=1&tmp=1#post918906

After the initial preview was released, the mages howled and moaned enmass, claiming that they'd been nerfed and none of the mage problems had been as well addressed as other classes.

These changes seem to address some of that:

Arcane:
Arcane Subtlety has been nerfed a bit from the first 1.11 spec - it now only reduces threat to arcane spells (as it currently does.)

Wand Specialization - they've reduced the number of talent points this takes, but it doesn't matter, nobody specs in this talent, anyway.

Magic Absorption - NEW TALENT! This increases your resistance to all schools of magic up to 10%. Also, when you resist a spell from an enemy, you can get a mana recharge up to 5% of your max mana.

Mana Shield - has been fixed so that Ice Barrier and PowerWord Shield absorb damage before Mana Shield does (yay!)

Improve Arcane Explosion - fewer talent points needed to max it... can now add up to 6% crit chance.

Fire:
Burning Soul - A threat reduction for fire spells is added... up to 30% reduction!

Improved Scorch - now adds more vulnerability of your enemies to fire damage.

Frost:
Due to a lot of feedback from mages, the tree has been rearranged again.... several talents have switched positions (Frost Warding, Permafrost, Frostbite, Improved Frost Nova, Shatter)

Elemental Focus: New Talent! Increases chance-to-hit by frost spells.

Frost Channeling - Up to 30% aggro reduction for frost spells added!

Winters Chill - Buffed

Ice Barrier - Buffed

----------------------------------------

All-in-all... the consensus among posting mages on the Blizz forums has been a lot more postive after these changes. The added threat reduction being the main reason. Overall, most mages still consider the Arcane tree to be mostly useless. Asipiring elemental mages seem to be loving it.
